ASI Assists Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard’s 114,000 DWT Oil Tanker in Obtaining LR Cybersecurity Certification

In April 2025, as a maritime cybersecurity systems integrator, ASI successfully assisted Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) in helping the 114,000 DWT oil tanker “KEDROS” – built for Greek shipowner OCEANGOLD – pass onboard cybersecurity tests and obtain Lloyd’s Register (LR) cybersecurity certification. With its professional technical expertise and efficient service capabilities, ASI provided reliable cybersecurity assurance for the vessel’s digital systems, earning high praise from both the shipowner and shipyard.

Professional Inspection, Comprehensive Safeguarding of Maritime Cybersecurity

The ASI technical team, adhering to international standards such as IEC 62443, IMO MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3, UR E26/E27, and LR regulations, adopted a “defense-in-depth” strategy. Equipped with professional testing tools, the team conducted comprehensive security testing on the vessel’s IT and critical OT systems, witnessed jointly by the technical department of Waigaoqiao Shipyard, as well as the shipowner’s IT and electrical engineers.

THE TESTS COVERED

  • Asset verification & Network architecture security analysis
  • Identity authentication & Access control mechanism validation
  • Perimeter defense & Communication security testing
  • Malware protection & Remote access security assessment
  • Vulnerability scanning & Incident response procedure testing

The test results fully met the stringent requirements of LR classification society. ASI also provided optimization recommendations for potential risks, contributing to the further enhancement of the vessel’s cybersecurity system.

Streamlined Coordination Facilitates Vessel Certification Compliance

Since taking on the project, ASI has attached great importance to it, swiftly assembling a dedicated technical team and working closely with Waigaoqiao Shipyard. During the design phase, the team efficiently completed key documents such as the Ship Asset Inventory, Network Topology Diagram, and Risk Assessment Report.

In the implementation phase, ASI collaborated closely with the shipyard, shipowner, and other E27 equipment vendors, holding multiple technical meetings to ensure smooth progress across all tasks.

During the certification phase, ASI compiled the Cybersecurity Test Report based on live vessel test data and assisted the shipyard in successfully passing the LR classification society’s audit—laying a solid foundation for the project’s on-time delivery.

Establishing Benchmarks to Strengthen Industry Cyber Resilience

This collaboration marks another successful practice for ASI in the field of maritime cybersecurity, showcasing the team’s professional technical capabilities while providing the industry with a replicable cybersecurity solution.

Looking ahead, ASI will continue to drive technological innovation, delivering smarter and more reliable cybersecurity services to the global shipping industry, and supporting the secure digital transformation of the maritime sector.
